Photo: "Bull Moose"

It's not often that I post images of critters, because it's rare that I get close enough to get a great shot with the equipment I have.

On this particular day in Wyoming, my Dad, brother and I were driving over a bridge into the town of Moose when we noticed a crowd of people standing on the bridge. We ran over to discover a bull moose, standing 10 feet below us, chilling and eating greens along the riverside. I had never seen a wild moose and seeing him that close in Moose, Wyoming was even better.

Taken inside the reception lobby of the Jones Building of Central State Hospital in Georgia.

Construction on this building. the only hospital in the county, was completed just before 1930 and remained in operation for nearly 50 years.  It contained a clinical lab, x-ray department and morgue.

Travel: 2,600 Miles of the Southwest Through My iPhone

I spent the last week of 2015 on the road. The adventure started when I met up with my friend Joe in the Grand Canyon and we continued our adventure exploring more of Arizona and Utah over the next 5 days.

In the next few months, I'll be publishing fully processed DSLR images one at a time on my blog, but those images are not the only note-worthy moments from the trip.

During our 2,600 miles on the road, I captured dozens of images on my phone. The photographs below are the moments in between each DSLR shutter click. These are moments seldom shared and also some of my favorite moments from my travels.

Photo: "South Rim, Grand Canyon"

Today, I settled back in at home after being away from San Francisco for 2 weeks. I spent the last 6 days traveling 2,600 miles across California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah while camping and shooting.

The Grand Canyon was the first stop last Sunday, after leaving San Diego. My friend Joe and I spent less than 24 hours here, but seeing the way the canyon looked during sunset, moonlight and sunrise was pretty awesome.

Photo: "Cedar Creek Grist Mill"

This last year has taught me many things. I realized, once again, that when your mind is open to new adventures, a new adventure has the ability to land in your lap. It sounds so basic, but if you have tunnel vision and are only focused on one thing, it can be really difficult to see the things around you.

This photograph is a mix of my love for historic/abandoned places and nature, but this was not an easy place to shoot. Maybe it was the day. Maybe it was the weather. Maybe it was the fact that I was trying to shoot just the mill. Whatever it was that caused me to stand there and absorb my surroundings for a while, allowed me to see the things around me and create this image.
